Event Rental

The Portland Classical Chinese Garden is Portland’s most unique event venue.  Winding walkways, a bridged lake, and open pavilions frame an exquisitely arranged landscape of plants, water, stone, architecture, and poetry.  Created to nurture and inspire all who visit, the Garden is the perfect backdrop for any occasion, providing you and your guests a picturesque setting in the midst of a cultural oasis.

Hours of Operation

The Garden is available for rental before or after Garden hours.  During the summer months, for corporate events we recommend guest arrival to occur 30 minutes after the Garden closes or at 6:30pm. Due to the additional set needed for wedding events, guest arrival may occur one hour after the Garden closes or at 7:00pm.

Winter hours: November 1st – March 31st 10:00am until 5:00pm
Summer hours: April 1st – October 31st 9:00am until 6:00pm

The Garden can accommodate 125 guests for a seated event and up to 300 for a reception style event.  We are ADA accessible, near a Max light rail line and easily reached by numerous Tri Met routes.  Visitors can park on the street or nearby parking lots and garages.

Fees & Timelines

The Garden is a full city block and a perfect venue for weddings and corporate or private events.  Rentals include the use of the entire Garden (exclusive of the Teahouse).  The Garden’s Teahouse can be added to your garden rental for additional seating or rented separately for intimate gatherings of up to 50 people. All events take place after the Garden public hours and can go to 11:00pm.  Please see the list of exclusive caterers to choose from to provide you with your rental equipment, food and beverage service.

Corporate and private event rental fees for the Garden start at $1,600 for 3 hours. 

Everyday of the week, the Garden is available for wedding ceremonies and receptions.  Rental fees begin at $3,200 for 4 hours.

Sunday through Friday, with the exception of Saturday, the Garden can be rented for a ceremony only for $1000 for 1.5 hours. No food or beverage is allowed with a ceremony only time slot. 

Renting the Tea House for Your Next Private Event

The Tea House is available for private events after the Garden is closed.

Inside the walls of the Garden is our authentic Chinese Tea House. This cozy, heated two story building is a unique venue for groups of up to 50 guests. Decorated with authentic hand crafted Chinese furniture and hanging lanterns, the ambiance will be a setting your guests will never forget. 

Peak Season: The Tea House can be added to the Garden rental for an additional $800
Off Season: The Tea House can be rented for $ 800 (garden is included)
Off Season Wedding Reception Rental: The Tea House can be rented for $1,600

Highlights when renting the Tea House for your next event:

Alcoholic beverages are limited to champagne, sake, beer and white wine.  Red wine is not acceptable.  Hard alcohol is not allowed.

Renters are required to provide liability insurance.  Insurance is available for purchase through the Garden for a nominal fee. 
A deposit of 50% is due upon confirmation of booking.  The deposit is applied to the total rental fee and is non-refundable in the event of cancellation.  The remaining rental total is owed 45 days prior to the event.

A $500 cleaning deposit is required for wedding receptions.  The amount refunded will be based on the condition of the Garden following the event.

The Garden’s own (100) black wood folding chairs that can be rented for your event at $ 3.00 per chair with a $ 50.00 set up fee. The Garden has an in house sound system that can amplify audio into the heart of the Garden area and can be rented for $ 175.00. This sound system is not intended for musicians or dancing.


The Garden provides an exclusive catering list to make your next event as effortless as possible.  Caterers provide all equipment rental and event coordination needs.
