The Portland Classical Chinese Garden

Between NW 2nd and 3rd and NW Everett and Flanders in Old Town/Chinatown, Portland Oregon, USA

Tuesdays by Twilight Concert Series returns to the Garden

Inspired by the lingering light of summer evenings and the magic of the garden at dusk, the Portland Classical Chinese Garden will present its forth summer concert series again on six consecutive Tuesdays beginning July 11th. “Tuesdays by Twilight: Midsummer Music in the Portland Classical Chinese Garden” offers you the rare chance to enjoy live music in the garden after hours.

The Tuesday evening concerts feature a diverse mix of musical styles by some of the region’s most exciting performers. The garden will also offer beer from cosponsor BridgePort Brewing Company, fine Oregon wines and Asian dinner boxes prepared by Dragonfish Restaurant and Sunny Han’s Wok & Grill, all for sale during the shows. “Tuesdays by Twilight” is made possible by a generous sponsorship from Nordstrom.

Concert Details are as follows:

Tuesday, July 18: St. James Gate

St. James Gate delivers an authentically Irish sound that’s rich in tradition yet refreshingly contemporary, thanks to a savvy blend of old tunes and new material presented with polish, verve and more than a wee bit of improvisation.

Tuesday, July 25: 3 Leg Torso

Back from their exhilarating Garden debut two years ago, 3 Leg Torso creates elegant and daring modern chamber pop music inspired by tango, eastern European folk and world music traditions.

Tuesday, August 1: Mia Nicholson Jazz Quintet

Vocalist Mia Nicholson delivers a sound that’s tender, joyful – and refreshingly sincere. Tonight, Mia applies her signature sound to a savvy selection of uncommon jazz standards, Brazilian songs and unpredictable pop fare, backed by a quartet of the Northwest’s best players.

Tuesday, August 8: Ensemble East West

New Zealand flutist Tessa Brinckman leads Ensemble East West, which pushes the boundaries of chamber music with a riveting blend of music from the eastern and western worlds, including traditional, new and hybrid material. This evening’s concert features contemporary works arranged for koto, harp, flute and violin.
Tuesday, August 15: Afincando

Afincando is a Cuban salsa dance band whose name means “grooving.” They’ll cap off this year’s concert series on an exuberant note, with infectious songs, irresistible rhythms and a joyful sound. Bring your dancing shoes!

We hope to welcome you at these inspired concerts.  Please note that in order to protect the garden’s rare plantings and prevent crowding, coolers and large folding chairs will not be allowed beyond the gates. Small, armless chairs or stools are acceptable.
