Garden classes let budding artists draw on experience
May 27, 2022

PORTLAND, Ore. - René Eisenbart, botanical artist for the Oregonian, will teach a series of botanic drawing classes in the Portland Classical Chinese Garden, Wednesdays, July 2, July 16 and July 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuition for the series is $72 general public, $60 for Garden members. Registration required by June 25 by calling (503) 228-8131, extension 2001.

Class topics include "Drawing For Pleasure," "Focus on Composition," and "Washing with Color." While covering the basics, Eisenbart's light-on-lecture lessons will allow participants time to sketch and paint the Garden's waterlilies, lotus, hibiscus, roses, and other abundant subjects. The series is appropriate for beginners or artists of all skill levels.

René Eisenbart's works, with their distinctive vibrant flower forms, capture the joy she finds in the garden. For 20 years she has been an artist for the Oregonian, the last six with the "Homes and Gardens of the Northwest" section. She has won five Quill & Trowel awards for illustration from the Garden Writer's Association and 100 of her illustrations appear in the book "Plant This!" by noted plant enthusiast and National Public Radio commentator Ketzel Levine.

The Portland Classical Chinese Garden is located at Northwest Third and Everett in Portland.
